Happy 61st Anniversary from the Board of Queen’s Hall!

Anniversary Greetings from The Chairman of the Board – Dr. Helmer Hilwig

It is my pleasure as Chairman, to bring greetings on behalf of the Board of Queen’s Hall, Management and Staff.  As we celebrate this Grande Dame’s 61st Anniversary, we look at the contributions she has made by being a home for the performing arts in Trinidad and Tobago.  This would not have been possible without the support of our patrons during the past six decades.  For your continued patronage, we thank you!

Queen’s Hall’s opening night on June 4th 1959 was “one of the most highly anticipated events of the year.” For Helen May Johnstone and members of the Queen’s Hall Board, it was “the culmination of years of dedication to a goal, which at times seemed unreachable”. Sir Edward Beetham, Governor, aptly defined the vision for the Hall: “I am confident that in the years that lie ahead, Queen’s Hall will become the centre of our country’s artistic and cultural life…”

Since then, our vision has been for Queen’s Hall to be “recognized internationally as the Caribbean region’s premier theatre, contributing to nation building and advancement of all genres in the arts.” Our continued mission is to “provide the necessary canvas for showcasing local and international performing arts supported by a highly trained, cohesive, and service-oriented staff.”

Although we are temporarily closed due to the COVID 19 pandemic restrictions, the Board continues to work assiduously to ensure that we fulfil our mandate to be “a national institution that nurtures development of and excellence in the Performing Arts.”  We are using this opportunity to highlight online the best talent in our country. When our doors are open once again, we will be eager to show off the best of our creatives on stage. We can’t wait!  Regardless of our present circumstance, this will not keep us from celebrating this milestone.

Join me in wishing Queen’s Hall – Happy 61st Anniversary!  We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
