Beginning 2001, The InterClub has joined other women worldwide “In Celebration of Women” by having an event to mark International Women’s Day, reported Chairperson Kay Narinesingh, president of the Brahma Kumaris Women’s Wing. The 2013 theme, as declared by the United Nations, is The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum. Over time and distance, the equal rights of women have progressed. We celebrate the achievements of women, while remaining vigilant and tenacious for further sustainable change. There is global momentum for championing women’s equality, and the members of The InterClub are proud to assist in this endeavour.
Mrs. Narinesingh explained that the club was founded in 1984 “to inspire and motivate women to reach their full potential. We celebrate women and would like to empower her to know that self-care is not selfish and that she has to take care of herself first so she can be there for others.” The Club now comprises of Presidents of twenty-two women’s organizations in Trinidad and Tobago, and continues to grow.
