“For over 50 years, faithful patrons have proclaimed: “Christmas begins with the Marionettes”! It’s no wonder, as the Marionettes annual Christmas concert has become a cherished annual tradition for many in Trinidad. Unstinting attention is given to every aspect of the production — the music, the sets, the costumes, the lighting, the sound, and the overall theme — so as to uplift and entertain audiences before sending them home full of all that is bright and beautiful about the Christmas season. To this end, some 130 singers from the adult, youth, and children’s arms of the Marionettes as well as teams of musicians, set builders, costume-makers, and production designers are all busily working to put together another unforgettable “Christmas with the Marionettes” concert experience.
Faithful audiences can look forward to the choirs weaving the Yuletide through an uplifting, fun-filled programme of spirituals, gospel, musicals, classical, and popular local and international Christmas favourites. And fans of Jacqueline Johnson, Hermina Charles, Gillian Seecharan-Nancoo, Annalise Emmanuel, Dominique Akal, and Aysiah McEachnie-Assing will certainly not be disappointed. In a time when our country and the world are in dire need of peace, joy, and hope, the Marionettes — under the batons of Gretta Taylor (Hummingbird Medal Gold) and Dr Roger Henry — seek to usher in a spirit of love, community, and festivity with ‘I Dream A World’”. Part proceeds of this year’s concert go to the Living Water Community’s hurricane relief efforts in Dominica and Barbuda; and part proceeds will go to the Marionettes Property Fund as the group seeks to build a home of their own. The series is supported by Flow, CNMG, and by the Marionettes’ title sponsor since 1972, bpTT.
