Metamorphosis Dance Company – Inside Out

Start date/time

April 12, 2018 | 6:30 pm

End date/time

April 15, 2018 | 9:30 pm

Metamorphosis Dance Company’s “Inside Out” features eight pieces of choreography created by seven choreographers and danced by the Company of 24. The season is named Inside Out because many of the dancers are assuming new, different and exciting roles beyond that of dancer and bringing to light their talents in dance, theatre management and production. They are now choreographing, working alongside our creative and management team in administration, in new media, in costume and wardrobe and as assistant rehearsal directors, all while still dancing. The three dancers who are now also choreographers are Keanu Mohammed, Courtenay Thorne and Katherine Carrera. Keanu created the duet Dyad, a discussion of violence against women. Courtenay explores Passion and Katherine’s is a work in progress that explores the possibility of “You.”

Special price of $100 for the Opening night on Thursday 12th April and $150 for the Friday to Sunday shows. Showtime is 6:30pm on Thu 12th, Friday 13th and Sunday 15th with a 7:30pm start on Saturday 14th April.

About the Artistic Director- Nancy Herrera

“I was eight years old when I first danced on Queen’s Hall’s Stage as an Attendant to the Princess of Spring in the Ballet Cinderella put on by Helena Dunn. As we continue to extend the range of our contemporary Caribbean folk repertoire; mixing new work with the classics, it has always felt like home for both dancers and production team when we perform on Queen’s Hall’s stage. It is my pleasure to welcome you to our 23rd Dance Season! ”

About the Choreography

As in the past, we continue the tradition of working with international dance artists. Their choreography and style of movement were introduced to the dancers of the Company in an intensive dance residency, over a period of two to three weeks. This was done in December 2017 and we are honoured to be dancing the works of Taurus Broadhurst and Terry Springer. Taurus Broadhurst is an American dance artist based in Washington and the Founder and Artistic Director of Taurus Broadhurst Dance, an African Contemporary Company which fuses movement from modern dance, house, and hip-hop to convey diverse, contemporary stories and to embody the griot tradition through movement. Terry Springer is an international dance artist and the Artistic Director of the Corearte Dance Company based in Venezuela. He has performed and choreographed in Venezuela for over 25 years and is presently working in Trinidad. He currently lectures at the University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT) and conducts classes for the Astor Johnson Repertory Dance Theatre.

Bridgette Wilson, choreographer of the winning carnival performances for Lost Tribe for the last three years, brings her work from the carnival road to the Queen’s Hall stage. And finally, I continue my collaboration with internationally renowned classical musical Composer Dominique Le Gendre. The music is played live by Belorussian-born American conductor, saxophonist and clarinetist Yevgeny Dokshansky, American double bassist Caitlin Kamminga and American pianist Hayward Mickens. All three are my colleagues at UTT’s Academy for the Performing Arts and are active members of the Ibis Ensemble.
