Having impacted hundreds of Caribbean dance careers in its 25-year history, the Metamorphosis dance company is pulling out all the stops showcasing a multi-genre weekend of dance concerts entitled, ‘Take Heart’ from the 9th to 12th May 2019 at Queen’s Hall.
Just in time for Mother’s Day, ‘Take Heart’, will sweep audiences into a lighter, more joyous expression of the exuberance of dance in all its forms. Through patterns in movement, meaningful thematic connections will be made to explore three cornerstones of the season, ‘Resilience’, ‘Happiness’ and ‘Love’.
The Queen’s Hall stage will be the canvas on which ‘Take Heart’ will portray dances that signal hope, joy and sharing connections between loved ones.
By way of artistic collaborations, Metamorphosis will welcome, for the first time, Major Nesby, an American Choreographer presenting the world premiere of ‘Lost and Found’, a piece created after he conducted a dance residency with the company last December here in Trinidad. Terry Springer Artistic Director of the Corearte Dance Company, Venezuela will return to create the passionate piece ‘Tangoish’, along with a celebration of he male dance form in ‘Ritual Music’.
Metamorphosis rehearsal director, Bridgette Wilson who was recently appointed as Principal of Caribbean School of Dancing will also present two original works and world premiere dances entitled, the whimsical ‘Le Ballet’ and a all-company piece, ‘Finale’. Artistic Director Nancy Herrera will also present two new works, ‘Two Etudes and a Waltz’, inspired by the music of Chopin, played by Hayward Mickens on piano; and ‘Becoming’ – a collaboration with Composer Adam Walter, musicians of the Ibis Ensemble and designer Yia Gomez.
Live music to accompany the dances within the show will also be performed by Simon Browne on Violin and Caitlyn Kamminga on Double Bass, Josh Watkins and the UTT Percussion Executives and the UTT Ibis Ensemble.
