The Lydians give ‘The Gift’ of Music

Meticulously crafted an prepared by Musical Director Lorraine Granderson, this Christmas, the Lydians explore the theme of ‘The Gift’. At the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, three gifts were given heralding him as the gift of salvation to all – Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Along with these, the Lydians offer music, the most precious gift of all, the ability to perform it, a grace, an offering of goodwill and an action of love.

Goodwill and love have been chief cornerstones of the past few months in Trinidad and Tobago. As citizens, we rallied around those in need of aid, donated food, water, clothing and began to clean up, rebuild and restore lives. This Christmas, the Lydians wish to restore the spirits of the people as well. The concert will take place from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th December at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday 16th December at 6:00 p.m. at the Queen’s Hall.

The concert will take patrons on a musical journey through the gifts of the Three Kings, divided into three segments : Myrrh (Renewal/death of the past), Frankincense (Reverence/Advent Hope, the birth and Nativity), and Gold (Rejoicing/Glorious now behold King). Just as the contemporary observance of the season celebrates the ritual of gift exchange with friends and loved ones, The Lydians seek to offer an exciting array of music, threaded through the gifts to attending audiences.

As a special feature of this year’s concert, the Lydians have been offering ‘The Gift of Music’ caravan to Queen’s Hall.  Corporate Trinidad and Tobago has been approached and invited to give the gift of music to affected communities, schools and youth organizations through the purchase of tickets to be distributed to those in need of hope – beyond the physical. The Lydians believe that music, as a gift, will help as part of the healing process, to nurture both the spiritual and emotional needs of our fellow citizens in these trying times.

The concert production will feature the full choir, the Lydian Steel, our renowned accompanists as well as our drummers. Joining the Lydians once more, with be Wendell Manwarren as Creative Director with original pieces by Jazz/gospel pianist Mark Brewster and Folk arranger John Jacob from Tobago. Composer, Pannist Astra will launch a fourth piece from the major work composed for the choir entitled, ‘Missa Lydia’ – the Lydian Mass. The visuals of the show will be enhanced by set design by Edwin Erminy, sound by Victor Donawa and lighting design by Celia Wells.

‘The Gift’ will take place from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th December 2018 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday 16th December 2018 at 6:00 p.m.. Opening night tickets cost TT$150 with all other nights: General TT$200 and Special Reserve Seating TT$250.
