Queen’s Hall Launches The Garden Theatre – Fri 12th Nov 2021

Friday 12th November heralded the Launch of Queen’s Hall’s Garden Theatre – an outdoor venue that offers an assortment of experiences including live contemporary performances, local art, storytelling and indigenous cuisine. The event also marked the presentation to Queen’s Hall of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) “Safe Travel Stamp” which was facilitated by Tourism Trinidad Limited (TTL). In his feature address, Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts congratulated the Queen’s Hall Board for these milestone achievements and urged the producers and event promoters in the intimate audience to maximize the use of this theatrical facility.

General Manager Garfield George welcomed all in attendance and noted that while the global pandemic and the resultant intermittent closing of National Performance Spaces limited opportunities in the entertainment sectors, Queen’s Hall embraced the opportunity to create a venue that will play a pivotal role in satisfying an entertainment-starved public. The Garden Theatre will also provide a platform for artistes to not only showcase their talents but also earn an income.

QH Chairman Dr. Helmer Hilwig expressed pride and delight at the opening of Queen’s Hall Dinner-Theatre facility where patrons can enjoy theatrical performances, network with producers and performers as well as view local art exhibitions. He recounted the challenges faced over the years in maintaining a world-class theatrical facility and the reopening of the Hall in 2005 after an extensive refurbishment exercise. The establishment of The Garden Theatre is yet another fulfilment of the Board’s Vision to “showcase and nurture excellence in the performing arts”.

TTL Chairman Cliff Hamilton lauded Queen’s Hall as the first awardee of the internationally renowned WTTC Safe Travel Stamp which was developed to restore travellers’ confidence and revive the global travel and tourism industry.

The evening’s entertainment lineup included a musical prelude by pannist Joshua Joseph a duet by David Williams and Nakita Gadsby, stand-up comedy by Simmy the Trini,  Spoken Word rendition by griot Zakiya Gill, a mini magic show by Jonni Magick a soca parang medley by Dylan Loy Tuk and a lively dance by the Black Box Crew.
